Throughout India, millions of young kids are unable to attend elementary school – due to various socio-economic, familial and geographic challenges. Often, even if the parents are able to send their children to school, they choose not to due to the lack of money for clothing, supplies and transportation. This story is unfortunately common in rural and urban India.
Lily Foundation focuses on these children and helps impart basic education. Lily Foundation also supports working parents by offering a safe space for their children at our Study Homes, Primary Coaching Homes or High School Coaching Homes where they learn, play and are offered nutritious snacks.
Study Homes
At Lily Foundation study homes, we offer basic literacy skills at the elementary level including alphabets and numbers up to first grade as well as languages (Bengali and English) and Math in a disciplined learning environment. Besides free education, we also provide free school uniforms, free nutrition snacks and free periodic health checks. After two years of learning, we help them get admitted to a public school.
Primary Coaching Homes
There are a large number of primary students from Grade 3 through 5 who lack the guidance at home with school work and homework assignments. As a result, these children become demotivated and fall behind at school. Further, evaluations and testing does not take place till the end of Grade 5 at which stage there is suddenly a high drop-out rate due to the inability to cope and improve upon gaps in learning.
Primary Coaching Homes are established targeting these school children. The Homes run at volunteer’s premises or in other public facilities during convenient after-school hours, where the volunteer assume the role of teacher.
High School Coaching Homes
The goal is to support students with low grades to successfully pass their high school examination. Students of Grades 9 and 10 are coached by expert teachers to develop skills in problem solving and test taking. The classes are usually held at a high school where subject-matter experts teach English and Math.
The coaching is made more accessible as it is offered during convenient after-school hours in small class sizes. The students take part in additional skill-building exercises like the use of digital tablets and public speaking and presentation.
