Coming from a family of four, where father is a part-time employee, handicapped with foot-injury, and mother is also a part-time employee social worker, together earning Rs. 800/- (less than $18) a month, Soumali achieved a 1st division in Madhyamik 2008. She participates in quiz and drawing competitions and often receives prizes. She tutors her brother and neighbor's daughter in spare time. Soumali's hobbies are playing cricket and drawing pictures. She wants to be a Naval Officer in future.
